JIM LAMBIE

Jim Lambie (Scottish, b.1964), was born in Glasgow and graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1994. Lambie’s work focuses on intense visual stimulation, whether through the use of neon colors or the reusing of common cultural detritus. His sculptures use music paraphernalia such as posters and album covers. These works often populate spaces which have had their floors covered with his ongoing piece, Zobop. This work consists of vinyl strips of tape that follow the contours of the space, creating a dizzying environment highlighting the architecture and enhancing the aesthetic impression of the space. Lambie has had a long connection with music, having played in the band The Boy Hairdressers when he graduated from university. This connection extends into his work in the form of the materials he uses and in the names of his pieces, such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, a platform with chair pieces. In 2005, he was shortlisted for the Turner Prize for his work Mental Oyster. Lambie lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland.
